There are not that many great things about suffering and trials. By definition, they actually suck. They are events that rattle us, shake our beliefs, question who we are, and often leave us asking why.
They are trying.
It creates resistance.
It is in these very times that we as lovers of the One True King must remain firmly rooted in Him.
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Someone once told me “it is better to be a thermostat than a thermometer.” Kind of a dumb saying. But a thermometer is a reflection of the environment around them. However, a thermostat controls the environment around them. They dictate it. They take captive the situation and into it brings warmth, light…hope.
God has given us the controls to the thermostat by the commissioning of his Spirit. He sent those controls to all who believe. And James is saying, “Hey, blessed is the one who can still remain cool the hotter it gets. For those are the ones who love me, trust me, walk with me, abide in me, and those are the ones I will crown.”
Children of God, the stakes are too high not to take this command seriously. The passage goes on to read:
But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin
Not “if” but “when” we are tempted by the enemy it is for the sole purpose to bring destruction and death. It’s not just one night of fun. Not a simple escape from the pressures of life. But to completely dismantle and destroy us.
…we are not attacking this alone. God has sent his holy living Spirit to dwell among us. We are the new temples that house the living God. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is now alive in us!
We are now more than conquerors.
Sin has no foothold.
Destruction has no chance.
Light it up.
