Sometimes the Lord asks us to do difficult things. These problematic things can be classified as tasks, “not to do’s,” to wait… especially in today’s rushed society, this can prove to be difficult. We are trained to want things NOW. To just go out and make things happen against all the odds. To follow our dreams and be whatever we want to be.
These worldly decrees may not align with what the Lord has been laying on your heart. Maybe you grew up wanting to be a vet, but He has designed you to be a leader of another sort. Perhaps you wanted to be a stay at home parent, but He isn’t ready for you to take that on because He has more planned for you.
We can often see these unmet desires as setbacks, but that could just be that we are looking at them from the wrong angle. He wants good for us, and He wants us to be fulfilled, but in Him first. When we first seek the Lord God with all our heart and don’t place worldly restrictions on what He can do, what comes from that can be summed up in two words: love and peace.
When my heart and eyes are focused on Jesus, the things that happen in regular life seem less significant. I can get through anything wrong and praise Him for seeing me through it all. I rejoice in the good He has blessed me with because all good things are from God. Sure, life gets ‘lifey’ and can really present us with some things that can seem impossible at times, but I know from experience when I keep myself focused on the Lord and not in my circumstances, I am able to find joy wherever I am at.
For me, this has taken years of practice, and I am no master at it. No matter what, I do my utmost best to give everything to the Lord at all times. This takes the ego out of me and helps keep me humble and seeking Him in all ways. I have seen that it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are in a worldly sense, as many tend to get rewarded for bad behavior and punished for good. It is about keeping ourselves aligned with our God, doing our best to walk as Christ showed us, and to humble ourselves enough to know life is not just about us and our desires.
For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep His commands, decrees, and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. (Deuteronomy 30:16)
Our Lord is loving and faithful and kind. I urge you not to discount what He can and will do in your life when you turn your will to Him. Life may be difficult, but you can still have peace in your heart.
Blessings in obedience and absolute love,
